Delaware (DE) Lottery

The Delaware Lottery contributes its profits to the State General Fund. Since 1975, more than $2.4 billion has been transferred to the General Fund from Lottery proceeds. In fiscal year 2006, the Lottery's contribution was $248.8 million, making it the state's fourth-largest revenue generator.

On May 31, 1974, the Delaware Lottery was established by an act of the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Sherman W. Tribbit. Then on October 1975, the Delaware Lottery started to sell tickets for games with weekly drawings.

On February 10, 1976, the "Diamond Instant Dollars", Delaware's first Instant Game, was introduced.

On September 27, 1977, "Lucky Stars" - a weekly game - became the first Delaware Lottery game with drawings televised on WHYY-TV, Channel 12. On January 24, 1978, "Daily Numbers" - Delaware's first On-Line daily numbers game (now known as PLAY 3) was introduced.
