Minnesota (MN) Lottery

From the start of the Minnesota Lottery in April 1990 through December 2006, sales have exceeded $6 billion. Over $1.4 billion has been paid to the state of Minnesota.

The contributions of the Minnesota Lottery to state programs exceeded $100 million in FY04 for the first time ever. Contributions grew to $106 million in FY05 and $121 million in FY06.

Scratch (instant) games continue to account for the bulk of lottery sales - 60 percent in FY05.

The bulk of lottery revenue (59%) is returned to players as prizes. Prize payments in FY06 alone exceeded $268 million. Since April 1990, players have won over $3.6 billion in prizes.
